About Van CINE Video

Around the World and Back to Vancouver

Van Cine began on the road. Matt and Alex first worked together in Las Vegas making videos at the World Series of Poker and they continued to travel extensively in North America and Europe producing short poker documentaries and video content for social media and the web.

After years spent learning the craft of filmmaking and video content marketing, Matt and Alex branched out from the poker world and began offering video services in Vancouver, BC. Having both grown up in the Lower Mainland, Matt and Alex are passionate about local culture, businesses and events.

Between them Matt and Alex cover a wide range of the creative and technical skills necessary to produce high-quality, compelling video. They also take pride in working closely with other passionate people to tell stories that matter, whether it’s exploring a brand, business, person or event.

The Van Cine Team

Van Cine’s core team includes founding partners Alex Konyves and Matt Showell.

Alex Konyves

Founder, Producer

Alex grew up in Crescent Beach and received his BFA in Film Production from Simon Fraser University. A passionate filmmaker, Alex has traveled the world for the last ten years producing high-quality videos for the web. He’s been Van Cine’s director of photography and senior video editor since co-founding the company in 2015.

Alex is experienced shooting on a wide variety of high-end cameras and is expert in the use of Adobe’s Creative Suite of editing and video effects software.

Alex is also a professional children’s musician and performs live concerts and kids’ music workshops. He released his debut children’s album last year. Communicating positive and valuable messages is central to Alex’s music as well as the videos he produces with Van Cine.

When Alex isn’t working he can be found exploring BC’s outdoors in his 1994 Mitsubishi Pajero, playing hockey in local rec leagues and making music for children and adults.

Matt Showell

Founder, Producer

Matt grew up in Vancouver and studied English Literature at UBC. In the summer of 2006 Matt landed a freelance writing gig in Las Vegas at the World Series of Poker and began traveling the world full time creating web content for one of the biggest online poker portals in the world.

Over the next decade Matt went from staff writer to editor in chief of PokerListings.com. Matt was integral in creating overall content marketing strategies that included search engine optimization, content marketing and social media. Matt learned the ins and outs of SEO and in particular how strong content can truly set brands apart and make websites rank higher.

Matt has personally interviewed over 1,000 people for print and video including celebrities, billionaires, poker pros and average Joes (and Jills). Matt is passionate about telling stories and loves meeting new people from all walks of life.

When Matt's not working he's usually exploring the local outdoors in his 1999 Toyota 4Runner or working in his woodworking shop. Or playing pinball.
